Google Scholar is just a search engine specific to academic papers. It doesn’t do anything other than create a database of publications that it has identified using an algorithm as being scholarly.

This includes peer reviewed journal articles, but also books and book chapters (often not peer reviewed), various PhD and MSc theses (peer reviewed in some way), patents, and other stuff not found in the curated databases (science direct etc).

There will be articles that haven’t been peer reviewed, or have had only a cursory glance by an editor.
